CCD Registration 2023-2024

CCD registration for the 2023-2024 school year is now closed. The question I get asked the most
often is “Does my child have to attend CCD if they are not in a Sacramental program?” The
answer is “YES!” The CCD program runs from first grade through ninth grade. A solid faith –
based education will give your child a broader, healthier perspective on life. A world view that is
based on biblical principles will be one of selflessness, acceptance, and love for their fellow man.
No parent is going to keep their child out of school in the years that they don’t take the FCAT.
Why would you keep them out of CCD in a year when they don’t receive a Sacrament?
It is important for the children to study math, science and English each year in school. It is also
important that they study religion. Studying religion gives them a good moral foundation and
builds priorities that they will have for the rest of their lives.
The best way to show your children how important you feel CCD is, is to volunteer. We need
teachers, aides and substitutes. No teaching experience is required, just a love of God and of
children. I’m sure you could all name 5 great athletes, 5 great actors and 5 great businessmen.
But can you name 5 great Catholics? Let’s strive to get our children on ALL of those lists.
Registration is being taken in the church office on Monday through Friday from 8 am to 3 pm.
The office is closed from noon until 1 pm. I am happy to discuss any questions or concerns you
may have. I may be reached at 561-966-1538. Let’s have the best year ever! – Debbie Whitlock

“This is good and pleasing to God our savior, who wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth.”  1 Tim 2:3-4

Our Religious Education Program teaches the traditions, beliefs, values and practices of the Catholic faith.  We educate and promote the moral and spiritual values necessary to lead productive lives while practicing our Catholic faith.

Religious Education sessions are conducted by educated volunteers.  All volunteers are members of our parish.  Teachers are 18 years of age or older and have been FBI fingerprinted and had a Florida Department of Law Enforcement background check conducted.  Volunteers are instructed in classroom procedures and must attend the Diocesan required presentation of “Protecting God’s Children.”

REGISTRATION

All families must register with the parish before children may be registered in the CCD Program.  Families who have children in the program this year will receive registration forms by mail the end of June.  New families may begin registration in July.  Copies of the child’s Baptismal and Eucharistic certificates are required to enroll in the program.  If the first year of a sacramental program was fulfilled in another parish, a letter from that parish will be necessary for enrollment.

SACRAMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

First Communion is a two year program consisting of Pre-Communion in grade 1 and First Communion in grade 2.  We understand that some children, for various reasons, are past grade 2 and have not received their First Communion.  We have Pre-Communion and Communion classes for older children.  They will still need to attend the 2 year Special Sacraments program to be eligible to receive First Communion.  Mass attendance is required for both programs.

CONFIRMATION

The Confirmation Program consists of 2 years of study.  Grade 8 is Pre-Confirmation and the Confirmandi will receive the Sacrament in grade 9.  Mass participation is required, as well as community service and a retreat.

SCHEDULING

Our CCD Program begins the week after Labor Day in September and ends the week before Mother’s Day in May.  Although we try to follow the Palm Beach School Board schedule, there are times when our classes cannot meet, usually due to Holy Days, i.e. All Saint’s Day, Ash Wednesday, etc.  Please check the CCD schedule for the correct days the classes meet.
